Beware: You are in bear country

It made us a little uneasy to see the bear warnings at every campsite, trailhead. and in all the Alaska tourist magazines.  Most of the documentation describes bears as curious, intelligent and claim they tend to avoid or ignore people, but can be dangerous.  The same general information is presented and it provides helpful tips like:  “Bears Don’t Like Surprises!” and “Never approach or crowd bears; respect their “personal space.””.  It also offers behavior for close encounters like: “Identify Yourself- Let the bear know you are human.”, “Don’t Run- You can’t outrun a bear.”, and “If Attacked, you have two choices: play dead or fight back.”.  In general playing dead is recommended if attacked by a grizzly bear because they will become uninterested unless if they are hungry.  However, you are supposed to fight any black bear “with all you got” regardless of the circumstance.  Hopefully we never get into a situation where we have to test our hand to hand combat skills with any bear.  We’re cautious and alert when we walk the trails and carry our “bear spray” just in case an encounter gets too close for our comfort.

Em todas as revistas, jornais, guias de viagem eles nos alertam sobre o cuidado com os grande bears. Instruções clara e objetivas tipo: Se ver um urso marrom, levante os braços, fala firmemente com o animal, começe a dar passos lentos na direção oposta, e caso não funcione, não se apavore, lentamente pegue o spray e manda na cara dele. Se ver um urso negro ou cinzento, finja-se de morto, e se não funcionar… é lutar ou morrer. Nunca pense que os bears são amigos porque se ele não for com a sua cara, ou estiver com muita fome, ou se os ursinhos estiverem por perto, ele irá te atacar mesmo. Parece coisa de filme, mas sem brincadeira, essa é a forma que o governo recepciona os turistas ao começar uma trilha ou entrada de um lago, rio, coisa do tipo. Sempre alerta!!! Se estamos com medo? Imagina… um spray pra mim, outro pro Bryan, no bolso sempre!!!
