All in the family

Ecuador

Special visit to San José de Raranga

Visiting the sights and eating the foods are obvious aspects of getting to know a foreign land, but what continues to enrich our experience is the cherished personal interaction with the locals.  Márcia’s friend Marcos is from the Cuenca area so after meeting up with him while we were in Chicago, we had a better idea of what to expect of Ecuador and we also had a clothes delivery to make to his family…  We met his mom for the first time early on Saturday after she had sold out her quesillo at the local market.  We hopped on the bus together and headed towards San José de Raranga which we understood would take about an hour.  After getting off at a fork in the road and another 15 minute taxi-truck ride down a bumpy dirt road, we pulled up to her humble abode and she made us feel at home.  We visited with her daughter-in-law and granddaughter as they hand washed the family’s clothes for the week and then headed to their farm where her husband was toiling away.  The cattle, apple trees, sheep and chickens provide enough for them to survive and they are quick to smile despite their hand-to-mouth situation.  Our special visit was one we won’t forget and we’re thankful for the opportunity to get a glimpse of life in rural Ecuador.

Muchas, muchas gracias Marcos! Clique aqui para ver mais fotos!
