Keeping it weird

We have a few places to write about from the time we spent in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.  It’s been a while since we last published anything but we figure better late than never, right???…

Although it’s the largest city between San Francisco and Seattle, Portland has a more laid-back, smaller town feel to it than the two west coast metropolises.  Known to embrace its quirkiness, the surrounding scenic beauty, great outdoors environment, and eco-friendly urban planning policies make it a worthwhile place to stop in for a few days.  There are a few explanations for why it’s known as the “City of Roses”, but the fact that roses grow like crazy in the area and the abundance of rose gardens make it easy to connect the dots.  The city’s unofficial slogan of “Keep Portland Weird” is copied from the original Austin created but we would agree that with the economical advantages and the city’s relative isolation, “alternative” types are allowed to be themselves without being squished by economics or the judgment of others.  Foodies also flock to Portland because it’s in one of the most fertile agricultural areas in the nation and the food carts that line the streets are always busy.  Just a few hour drive from Seattle, we took in a Trailblazers game to kick the weekend off and explored the walkable downtown area by foot (and Segway…).  Catching a glimpse of Mt. Hood overlooking the city in the distance, we left with a good impression of the beautiful, quiet city.

Faz tempo que não escrevemos aqui no blog, mas nada como estar viajando de novo para nos darmos conta do quanto é bom pesquisar sobre os lugares e aprender mais um pouquinho da história desse mundão gigante!

Bom, como ficamos preguiçosos nesse tempo lá no Noroeste dos States, teremos que recapitular alguns momentos. Entre São Francisco e Seattle, uma cidade menor, mais tranquila e considerada a mais ecológica do mundo, assim é Portland. Pouquinho mais de duas horas de Seattle para Portlândia, nada como passar um final de semana super agradável na cidade das rosas. Sim, o clima é simplesmente perfeito para as rosas crescerem em todos os cantos e quase todo o ano. Além disso, a maioria dos carros daqui são elétricos e ajudam a mãe natureza a manter o ar puro. Então, aproveitando toda essa natureza, nada como uma caminhada pela cidade, uma comida num restaurante típico e apenas observar a beleza dessa cidade. Ah, sem contar no papel de fundo natural: o Monte Hood, meia montanha meio vulcão. Pena que o tempo estava nublado e que não conseguiu aparecer na foto.
