Day 269: The bull’s mouth

The islands of Bocas del Toro or “The bull’s mouth” are the essence of the Panamanian Caribbean coast and a perfect combination of nature, history, and culture.  Only 40 kilometers from Costa Rica in the northwestern part of the country, visitors must take a water taxi from the mainland to enjoy the variety of aquatic animals, coral reefs, tropical rain forests, and endless beaches with crystal clear waters.  Columbus saved a visit to the piece of paradise for his last trip to the New World and saw a large rock on one of the islands that had the form of a bull lying down.  Others say that he spotted some waterfalls in the form of bulls’ mouths while still others claim that the immense waves that smash into the rocks imitate a roaring bull.  Regardless of the origins of the islands’ name, they are an ideal place to spend some time as beach bums.

Uns dizem que ele viu as águas das cachoeiras em forma de boca de um touro. Enquanto outros ainda afirmam que as imensas ondas que quebram nas rochas imitam um touro rugindo. Mas, graças a Cristovão Colombo, que na sua última viagem as Américas avistou um pedaço de paraíso e como eram várias pedras em formato de um touro deitado e de boca aberta, teremos a oportunidade de conhecer as famosas àguas de Bocas Del Toro. Na parte noroeste do país, quase na fronteira com Costa Rica e em torno de 6 horas de Boquete,  chegamos as lindas ilhas panamenhas. Ficaremos aqui por alguns dias para ver se o sol é quente de verdade além de conferir os recifes de coral, animais marinhos e praias intermináveis com águas cristalinas. Engraçado que nosso tempo aqui no Panamá deu para conhecer a cidade, as montanhas e agora fechamos com chave de ouro… vamos a la playa!
