The cell phone has made notable strides since I was toting along the bag phone in my first car while I was in high school. Today, millions of people use (depend) on their smartphones for a whole lot more than calling in case of an emergency. Although the cell (smart) phone revolution is strong in South America, surprisingly there are still many people that are able to live without one… But their options to get in touch with someone are abundant and hundreds of “agents” offer calls by the minute in the street. Enterprising suppliers meet the consumer’s demand and the rate per minute vary from one block to the next. It’s interesting to see the vendors just standing around in a busy foot traffic area with several cell phones, waiting for some business to walk up.
O celular hoje em dia, é mais do que um acessório, é um importante meio de comunicação e cada dia que passa as pessoas necessitam do mesmo, para trabalhar, para se comunicar com amigos e família. Além de ser um grande avanço tecnológico, é interessante a influência na vida do ser humano. Estamos viajando por quase 7 meses e sem celular. Quero dizer, temos o aparelho conosco, mas só utilizamos para Wi-Fi, só isso. E estamos sobrevivendo. Já aqui em Bogotá, é fascinante ver que não são todas os colombianos que estão acostumados a ter o pequeno aparelho em mãos e a toda hora. Aqui, quem não tem telefone, paga por minuto para fazer uma ligação de celular. E as pessoas sobrevivem! É curioso ver como os vendedores nas ruas são ocupados e devem fazer dinheiro, porque os orelhões públicos estão sempre vazios.
