Day 214: Beware of the jellyfish

After relaxing in the sun for a while at the popular beach, Playa El Agua, we took a dip to cool off and were surprised and a little frightened to find dozens of jellyfish hanging out in the shallow waters. The little that we know about the floating creatures is that they don’t have any bones and their stings are painful and sometimes deadly. We weren’t sure about the stinging potential of the blue and purple species we spotted but our fear of the unknown seriously limited the time we spent in the water. Several of the jellies washed up on the beach but there were no willing volunteers among the beach goers to help the stranded marine animals back into the ocean.

Depois de relaxar sob o sol na famosa Playa El Agua, demos um mergulho para refrescar e ficamos surpresos com as dezenas de águas-vivas que alí tinham. Elas são lindas, e dá vontade de pegá-las de tão macia que devem ser… mas são tão perigosas que quando você vê uma dá vontade de sair correndo da àgua. Agora é epoca desses animais marinhos aparecem nas praias, então tem de monte aqui em Margarita. São mais de mil espécies espalhadas pelo mundo, e se colocada em contato com a pele humana, libera um veneno urticante que causa irritação, inchaço e vermelhidão. Então, melhor entrar e sair da água e tomar cuidado para não nos machucar!
