La Gran Sabana or “The Great Savanna” is a region situated in the southeastern part of Venezuela that shares borders with Guayana and Brazil. It is composed of more than 4,000 square miles and forms part of the Canaima National Park, which is the second largest in the country and one of the largest protected areas on the planet. Nature lovers and adventure seekers from around the world visit to take in the picturesque landscapes made up of rivers, waterfalls, gorges, valleys, jungles, and table like plateaus known as tepuis. The highest of these is Roraima at around 9,100 feet and its discovery is thought to have inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write ‘The Lost World’. The tepuys are regarded as islands in time by scientists since species have developed in complete isolation on top of them over thousands of years. We won’t be doing the 6 day trek to the top but we’ll be taking it all in with Alex and his wife Ana during our week-long road trip to catch up and get closer with nature.
WOW ! This is awesome !!! I can see the rainbow !!!
