Day 185: Sand of a different color

Morro Branco or “white hill” beach is one of those places that remind you what marvelous creations Mother Nature is capable of.  The area is about 50 miles from the capital of Fortaleza and is a favorite shooting location for several TV and movie productions for obvious reasons.  The sea cliffs that line the entire length of the beach form a labyrinth of red and white colored sand dunes and faces that create the spectacular view.  The sedimentary rock layers vary in color because of the erosive powers of both wind and water from the many natural springs.  The area is now protected so the local sand artisans can not use the naturally colored sands for their inspired handicrafts.

Morro Branco é um daqueles lugares que existem para que possamos nos lembrar das maravilhas que a natureza é capaz de criar. Do abrupto encontro da terra com o mar dá-se as falésias, e como elas são encantadoras. Com apenas 85km de Fortaleza, no município de Beberibe e é onde ficam as areias naturais coloridas. Hoje em dia a área é protegida pelo governo do Ceará, e para andar pelos labirintos é necessario o acompanhamento de um guia da cidade. As garrafinhas de areia com diversas cores ainda são produzidas pelos artesões da vila, porém as mesmas devem ser tingidas para preservar as lindas falésias.
