Day 179: Party like it’s your birthday

We didn’t make it to Santo André in time for Christmas or New Year’s, but we’ve been able to enjoy some other celebrations during our visit.  Along with the crazy Carnaval atmosphere going on when we first arrived, there have been a couple of birthday parties that have allowed us to have fun with the family.  Dona Marlene wanted us to be around so that we could help welcome her into the life of a sexagenarian.  We can’t say she looks or always acts her age but she is someone that tries to be happy in life.  It was nice to see the extended family but it definitely made us feel a little older seeing and talking about how the kids have “grown up”.  Age is just a number and getting older is a much better option than the alternative…

Infelizmente não chegamos à tempo para aproveitar o natal e ano novo, mas para nossa felicidade esse começo de ano temos vários aniversariantes na família. Primeira festa foi da Júlia, e agora, mesmo comemorando adiantado, D. Marlene quer celebrar o seu aniversário conosco. E não podíamos deixar de vê-la assoprando as 60 velhinhas, sem reunir a família. Foi ótimo rever os tios, tias, primos e primas, e em matar a saudades da carne louca, bolo e dos brigadeiros. Interessante ver que o tempo passa, e os que um dia foram pequenos hoje estão mocinhos e os que eram adolescentes já são adultos. E nós, bem mais experientes e como muitas histórias para contar!
