Day 166: This is Floripa

Florianópolis or “Floripa” is the capital and second largest city in the southern state of Santa Catarina.  The city is split between an ocean island and a small peninsula on the mainland that is connected by a three-quarters mile long bridge.  It is one of the most popular destinations in Brazil because of its more than 40 beaches, beautiful scenery, interesting culture, and friendly people.  We had planned to visit for a couple of days but our friend, Dair, warned us that getting around the island without a car can be difficult.  So we decided to use “BC” as our base and explore the hotspot of Floripa by daytrips.  We drove past the guys surfing the sand dunes and around to several of the beaches to people watch.  Most of the crowds had already left after Carnaval but we still got stuck in some island traffic that made us happy we weren’t sticking around for long.  With temperatures hovering around 100 degrees, we killed time in the afternoon under some shade while enjoying some cool, refreshing thirst-quenchers.

Florianópolis, a segunda maior cidade do estado de Santa Catarina, ou melhor a cidade dividida entra uma ilha e uma parte do continente com somente uma ponte pênsil de 821 metros de comprimento a dividí-la. Um dos destinos mais populares do Sul do Brasil, famoso pelas suas praias, cultura e belezas naturais. Pretendíamos passar duas noites por lá, porém Dair nos alertou dizendo que as praias são bem longes uma da outra e que precisaríamos de carro para nos locomover, foi então, que decidimos apenas passar o dia em Floripa. Esquibunda nas dunas de areias na Praia da Joaquina, vários pássaros no Lagoa da Conceição, sem contar nas pessoa bonitas que estava apenas passeando nas ruas. Com o calor de 40 graus na cabeça, não teve jeito, tivemos que sentar num barzinho, com os pés na areia, debaixo da árvore, tomar uma caipirinha bem gelada, petiscar um peixinho e sentir a brisa do mar a nos refrescar.
