Day 164: Lighting up the night

The giant Cristo Luz statue that sits on a high hill overlooking Balneário Camboriú is probably not the most recognized or original monument in the world, but it is unique when compared with other Christ statues that exist.  Just 15 feet shorter than the more famous icon in Rio de Janeiro, this one portrays Jesus holding a symbol that represents the sun in his left hand which is said to enlighten and bless the whole city and its tourists.  The powerful light equipment shines all night long, rotates 180 degrees, and reaches distances as far as 15 kilometers away.  The robe also features special lighting and for each day of the week there is a predominant color with symbolic meaning- green represents peace and nature.  Dair let us know that not all the residents are happy with the tourist attraction, especially those like his sister who live in high rise apartments where the spotlight’s bright flashes can be disturbing.

A gigante estátua que fica no topo da montanha, com vista para Balneário Camboriú não é o monumento mais conhecido ou original do mundo, mas é o mais autêntico se comparado aos outros Cristos que existem pelo mundo. Com apenas 15 metros menor que o Cristo Redentor, o diferencial do Cristo Luz é que Jesus esta segurando uma grande luz e sua mão esquerda. Luz essa que brilha a noite toda, gira a 180 graus e atinge distâncias de até 15km realmente para iluminar a cidade turística. Além da iluminação cada dia tem uma cor diferente também, como nessa noite, a luz verde tem o significado de paz e natureza. Coisa engraçado é que Dair nos disse que nem todos os moradores ficam feliz tendo um Cristo alí ao lado, porque anoite os raios de luz são tão forte que eles não precisam nem de abajur rs.
