Day 152: Finding Nemo

The coasts off of South Africa are a great place to see lots of marine life and also attracts adventure seekers looking to cage dive with great white sharks.  There are only a handful of operators that have permits to attract the giant fish with chum mixtures and unsuspecting tourists…  Even though we had considered the audacious activity, in the end we invented enough excuses to not go through with it.  Instead we took a less exciting trip to Two Oceans Aquarium but got to see more variety and didn’t have to worry about Jaws looking for an easy snack.  One of the main attractions of the aquarium is the huge 2 million liter Predator Exhibit and we were there the only day of the week that divers jump in to feed the four ragged tooth sharks.  The presenter explained that they are smaller and more tame than their great white cousins but an up close look at their teeth still strikes fear.  We also stopped off at the lifelike underwater forest, watched the penguins fight over some fresh fish, and ended our visit posing with the clown fish.

Até queríamos nadar com eles, mas aqui vão as desculpas que nos fizeram mudar de idéia: a) é super caro; b) a água estará super gelada; c) não temos máquina à prova d´água e d) vai que dá alguma coisa errada e o tubarão nos come vivo?!?! Isso mesmo, o grande tubarão branco é muito conhecido e adora essa redondeza aqui de Cape. Existem várias empresas que fazem tours de mergulho para nadar ao lado dos grandões bem na hora do jantar. Mas, como a vontade de ver um white shark de perto foi grande e as 15h é horário do almoço, fomos no aquário. Chegamos lá, e primeiro que ficamos impressionados com a tecnologia do aquário, super bem equipado, vimos os pinguins comendo, e depois passamos pela sessão onde os mergulhadores entrar num aquário gigante e dão comida aos tubarões. Eles são enormes, assustadores e só sendo especialista para conseguir dar comida na boca deles. Não nadamos, mas vimos eles de pertinho mas o que mais me impressionou mesmo foi ver os Nemos… ai que coisinhas mais linda, num aquário enorme e eu até consegui entrar dentro que nem uma criança!!! Lindos!!!
