Day 151: The most beautiful garden in Africa

The few hours we spent walking through the greenery at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden was more than enough time to make a nice impression on us.  The famous gardens sit on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain and is one of the most scenic spots that we’ve visited on our trip.  It was the first botanical garden in the world to be devoted to a country’s indigenous plants and the beauty and diversity of the Cape flora is on display.  The stroll was pleasant and informative and we especially enjoyed passing through the fragrance, medicinal, and “useful plants” gardens.  There is even a special section dedicated to Buchu plants that we were able to smell from a distance and that reminded us of our time spent on the farm.

Ficamos andando por horas e poderíamos passar até dias apreciando a natureza do Jardim Botânico que fica ao pé da Table Mountain. É verde para todo lado, milhares de tipos de plantas, flores e árvores. Foi o primeiro Jardim Botânico do mundo devotado a mais de 22.000 plantas indígenas. As mesmas são separadas por grupos então a melhor forma de apreciar é caminhar pela passarela dos cheiros. A brincadeira de tentar descobrir qual o nome da planta/cheiro é demais, ou se estiver interessado em ervas medicinais, é só dar uma voltinha no jardim apropriado e colher algumas receitas interessantes. Mais legal de tudo foi encontrar um setor só da família de Buchu. Quando estávamos na fazenda colhemos praticamente 400 kilos de Buchu e foi impossível não notar o cheiro quando passamos perto de alguns.
