Day 87: Hop on, Hop off

The buses in Mumbai have impressed us without really even trying to.  We didn’t measure them but they all look to be about 10 feet longer than most other city buses.  We imagine this is to allow for more people to squeeze in and enjoy the bumpy ride.  They decided to save money on doors which would just get in the way of people trying to jump on/off while the gigantic vehicle is still moving.  London is a far away land but double decker buses managed to make their way to the sub-continent as well.  Their best days are definitely in the past but they’re still functional and continue to transport the masses.  Being such a huge city, Mumbai has it’s share of traffic problems.  All the bicycles, cars, buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws racing through the streets has made the local train a good option for us.  They’re usually packed with people hanging out of the doors so it’s nice to have special wagons available for women, the disabled, and “1st class” as well.

Ainda não tivemos a oportunidade de andar de ônibus, mas nem precisa para notar como eles são compridos. Também não medimos, para eles parecem ser 10 cm mais longos que um busão “normal” (ou melhor, que estamos acostumados), é super estranho. Pontos de ônibus, pra que?! Quando quiser parar é só chegar perto do motorista e falar que quer descer, aí ele vai mais devagar e você pula, isso mesmo sai pulando do ônibus, muito engraçado porque ele não para completamente e te espera descer. Portas, pra que? Nem precisa, só daria mais trabalho para ficar abrindo e fechando. Sem dúvidas, não estamos em Londres, mas já vimos vários ônibus dois andares. Como a cidade é grande, é repleta de táxis e tuk-tuks também. Mas a forma mais rápida de se locomover, é o trem. Que funciona no mesmo processo, sem portas, entra e saí em movimento, a única diferença é a existência das estações. Curiosidade é que antes de entrarmos no trem, compramos a passagem, tudo certinho. Estavamos procurando a roleta, e não existe, nem cobrador, nem ninguém para conferir se você realmente tem o bilhete… conceito moderno aqui na Índia? Muito bom para ser verdade… precisamos investigar mais sobre esse assunto, rs.
