The small village of Pushkar has special significance for followers of the Hindu religion and is a pilgrimage destination for thousands every year. The belief is that Brahma, the god of creation, killed a demon with his lotus flower and one of the petals that fell in the area gave birth to the sacred lake that the city surrounds. The name Pushkar means “Lotus Flower” and no one knows exactly how old the town actually is, but it is believed to be one of the oldest existing cities in India. There were thousands of people bathing in the water as we watched along with a troop of monkeys from the side. As we approached the lake to take a closer look, we got whistled at because our shoes were on which is a big no-no. So is the sale of meat, alcohol, and cigarettes which is prohibited within city limits, and most likely contributes to a healthier population.
Outra cidade, outra loucura, e mais história para aprender. Enfim, estamos em Pushkar, não se sabe ao certo quando foi descoberta, mas acreditam que é a cidade mais antiga da Índia. Localizada na margem do lago, dizem a lenda que foi criada por Deus Brama. Então imagine, um lago, ao redor do lago, uma pequena vila, ao redor da vila, comércios, e ao redor da área comercial uma montanha contornando a cidade, imaginou? Pois esse o formato da cidade da flor de lótus, assim como eles chamam Pushkar. Lugar de peregrinação, é necessário até tirar os sapatos se quiser caminhar perto do lago. Se quiser entrar na água, pode ficar só com roupas íntimas não tem problemas. E se a água é limpa, of course, que não! É apenas sagrada. Pequena, charmosa e muito aconhegante foi onde passamos nossa tarde peregrinando e observando os devotos a se banhar. Vale lembrar que a cidade é vegetariana, e mesmo a sendo criada por Deus Brama, aqui não se vende nenhuma cervejinha : ((
