Day 258: The crossroads of the Americas

With its clean streets, towering high rises, and fast growing economy, Panama City is an impressive introduction for us to Central America.  It is the region’s capital of international finance and it’s evident the city is in the midst of an extended boomtown fever.  After our experience on the boat, we are glad to be on solid ground, see people walking around on the streets, and even use more traditional forms of transportation.  It’s is a multicultural place, with large populations from many different parts of the world and English is widely spoken.  Walking along the coastal beltway and gazing at the skyline from the bay exceeded our expectations for the capital of this developing country.

Experência é tudo na vida. Pagamos para ficar mareados por cinco dias, com um grupo que não “clicou” muito, aprendemos algumas coisas que nos ajudarão no futuro. Nada como estar em terra, chão, sentir o cheiro do asfalto e da cidade grande. Com ruas limpas, arranha céus imponentes, bela arquitetura e economia em rápido crescimento, assim é a Cidade do Panamá. Além de um lugar multicultural, a nossa primeira impressão é de muita modernidade, começando pela moeda que é o dolar. A maioria das pessoas falam inglês e as comidas são ser bem parecidas com o que encontramos nos States. Andando na baia, por vários momentos tivemos que nos relembrar exatamente onde estávamos, porque América Central até agora esta sendo bem diferente do que imaginávamos.
