Day 107: Catching the bus again

Tanzania appeals to millions of visitors every year who come to see natural attractions like Mount Kilimanjaro as well as the Great Migration in the Serengeti park. Since we already enjoyed an unforgettable safari and weren’t prepared for any other mountain expeditions, we decided to leave the country after a few days to spend Christmas on Lake Malawi. The first leg of our journey was a bus trip from Dar es Salaam on the eastern coast to the border point town Mbeye. After a couple hour bus traffic jam delay at the station, we were on our way with a scheduled 14 hours in front of us. The drive was scenic and we saw some animals (giraffes, zebras, African buffalos, etc.) but as soon as we got into the Poroto Mountain range in the late afternoon the progress basically stopped. After almost two hours we finally creeped up to the spot where the remains of a terrible accident were still visible. It was amazing to see what was leftover of the semi-truck and the passenger bus and we could understand what the delay was all about. After that, we weren’t so concerned about what time we were finally going to arrive, just as long as we made it there safely.

O país da Tanzania é muito conhecido pela suas atrações naturais como a  Montanha Kilimanjaro e pelo seu belo Parque Nacional do Seregueti que atraem milhões a cada ano. Como já tivemos um excelente safari no Quênia, não achamos necessidade de fazer um outro por aqui, e também já deu para perceber em experiências anteriores que não somos escaladores, então só estamos de passagem por aqui mesmo. Passaremos o Natal no Lago Malawi, em Malawi. Como as estradas são bem perigosas, aqui na Tanzania é ilegal dirigir anoite. Então, simbora acordar as 4 da matina pra cruzar mais uma fronteira. Logo que entramos no ônibus, um passageiro fez uma oração e foi muito legal da parte dele. Tivemos uma viagem tranquila, tirando 2 horas que tivemos que ficar parados por causa desse acidente. Outro ônibus bateu no caminhão, e nem sabemos quantas pessoas ficaram feridas, mas só deu pra ver que a coisa foi feia… Assim, tivemos mais uma oração antes de prosseguir viagem e chegamos bem por aqui. Que Deus seja louvado!
